Meet Cortado!

Cortado is a 3-year-old Poodle mix weighing 7 pounds, and this silly little guy has a big personality! He loves to chase and play with other dogs and has a fun, playful side that really comes out during group play. Cortado is still learning how to be a dog and continues to build his confidence and learn appropriate social skills through positive interactions with his canine friends.

Cortado requires another confident dog in the home to help guide him and provide reassurance as he continues adjusting to new experiences. Having a steady canine companion will be an important part of helping him feel comfortable and continue building his confidence.

Cortado must go to an adult-only home for the time being due to his nervous behaviors and need for consistency and routine.

Cortado is also still learning to trust people and will need an adopter who is patient, committed, and willing to continue his training. Our behavior team has been working hard with Cortado, and he has been making great progress. He is currently learning how to walk on a leash and is beginning to enjoy the process, especially with the people he has learned to trust. His adopter should be prepared to continue using positive training methods and help him build on the progress he has already made.

Cortado will require multiple meet and greets at the shelter. These meetings are important for everyone involved, giving Cortado and his potential adopters time to become comfortable with one another, learn his behaviors and communication style, and build trust. If there are resident dogs in the home, multiple introductions will also allow the dogs time to get to know each other and make sure everyone is comfortable before going home together.

Cortado will need a securely fenced-in yard to safely explore and continue building confidence. He will also need to go home with a secure, properly fitted harness to support safe leash handling as he continues learning.

With continued patience, positive training, and consistency, Cortado has great potential to keep growing into a confident, loving companion. His silly personality and playful spirit make him a special little dog who just needs the right family willing to take the time to get to know him.
