The Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin (formerly the Rock County Humane Society) is a private nonprofit 501c3 organization whose mission is to provide shelter and humane care to lost and homeless pets, reunite lost pets with their families, promote positive pet adoptions and educate our community in order to inspire compassion and responsible pet guardianship.
Our Mission
About Us
HSSW is located in the middle of Rock County and serves the stateline area. We provide services like pet adoption, pet rehoming, lost pet reunification, spay/neuter, and wellness/vaccine visits. Additionally, we have a robust foster and volunteer network that help us double our impact on the pets in our community and the people that love them.

Adoption Process
People can preview our adoptable pets on our website to get a little more information before coming into the shelter. Once at the shelter, people can meet with the pets they'd like to potentially adopt and if they fall in love, they can fill out the necessary paperwork, pay any associated fees, and take the pet home - often all in the same day. If the adopter is adopting a dog and they already have a resident dog at home, we will schedule a dog introduction to give the dogs a chance to meet too.
How to Meet Our Pets
People can preview our adoptable pets on our website to get a little more information before coming into the shelter. Once at the shelter, people can meet with the pets they'd like to potentially adopt as long as they are in the facility. If a pet is off-site (in a foster home or at a satellite location), we can either direct the adopter to the satellite location or schedule a time that works for both the foster and the adopter to come to HSSW to meet the pet.
Special Programs & Areas Served
Special Programs: We have a Doggy Day Out Program where folks can 'check out' a dog for a few hours all the way up to a weekend (called a Pup-cation). This is great for people who cannot have a pet full-time, but want some puppy snuggles and for our dogs to get out of their kennel.
Areas Served: Mostly Rock County, but the greater stateline area as well.
