West Columbia Gorge Humane Society is joining NBC & Telemundo's Clear The Shelters — the nationwide adoption campaign that's helped more than one million pets find homes since 2015. About Us
WCGHS is focused on bettering the lives of both pets and their people in our community. Established in 1994, our programs and services are carried out by a small staff and over 200 volunteers who are dedicated to the welfare of animals in need from our community and beyond. Thousands of pets and people are the recipients of our compassionate care and assistance each year.

Adoption Process
1. Application: No application or appointment is necessary to walk in to the shelter to meet our available animals. If an animal you are interested in is located in a foster home, the application must be completed first so that we can arrange a meeting with the foster. An adoption application MUST be completed prior to taking a pet home. This can be completed at the shelter at the time of the adoption.
2. Approval: Once the application is approved, a WCGHS team member will discuss next steps. If you submitted the application online before coming to the shelter, a WCGHS team member will reach out by phone to schedule an on-site meet and greet.
3. Finalizing the Adoption: A WCGHS team member will work with the adopter to finalize paperwork and payment prior to leaving the shelter.
How to Meet Our Pets
Walk-ins are welcome. We have pets available at multiple Petco stores as well. If an animal is in a foster home, we ask that you submit an adoption application first that we can arrange and meet & greet with the foster family.
Special Programs & Areas Served
Special Programs: Veterinary Assistance Fund - The Veterinary Assistance Fund was created to assist low-income families with the cost of providing urgent veterinary care for their pets. Recipients must currently receive some form of government financial assistance, such as food stamps, WIC, Medicaid, SSI, etc. Individual donors and grants from various foundations help fund this program to keep pets and their people together.
Pet Food & Supply Pantry - WCGHS collects and distributes pet food and supply donations for pets belonging to low-income families or pet owners experiencing hardship. The program feeds and supplies hundreds of pets in need every month throughout the region.
