We care for nearly 11,000 dogs and cats each year and offer a wide range of community programs including pet adoption, support for pet owners, resources for lost and found animals, veterinary outreach programs, youth programs, and more.

Adoption Process
Sign in at our front desk any time we are open to meet a specific pet! Walk-ins are encouraged! No prior contact/application necessary. Once you sign-in for a pet, an adoption counselor will meet with you as soon as they are next available. They will go over any history we have (medical/behavioral) and bring the pet to you to meet. If the pet is available to go home the same day (not on a stray hold and already spayed/neutered) then you can take home your pet that day! If not, you can pre-adopt (a paid hold, contract signed) and get assigned a pick-up date. Payment and contract are due at either full adoption or time of pre-adoption

The Jacksonville Humane Society provides care, comfort and compassion to animals in need while engaging the hearts, hands and minds of our community to bring about an end to the killing of abandoned and orphaned shelter animals.
