Animal Information: Ella is an estimated 2 year old 70 lb spayed female shepherd mix who was adopted as a puppy from the shelter and returned when the family came upon hard times. The shelter is overflowing with large mixed breed dogs, and Ella was at risk for euthanasia due to length of stay. She's a staff favorite and they pushed hard for us to say yes to one more big shepherd mix, because she's such a friendly, outgoing, social and affectionate dog -- but they are just at max capacity. Shelter staff reports Ella is good with other dogs, good on the leash, great with all people, and even rides nicely in the car.
Foster Profile:
Ella is the full package. She is smart, beautiful, athletic, and always up for anything. As a working breed dog, she needs more than a short walk and a snuffle mat to be happy. She is looking for someone who understands that and wants a dog that isn't just a couch potato.
Ella is currently in foster care at our Community Center, where she has become a staff and volunteer favorite. She is quick to learn, easy to train, and always ready to play. She loves romping with the adoptable black and tan boys, Bodhi, Walker, and Alfie, and would do well with a balanced male dog in her new home. Ella likes being the queen of the castle, so she would do best without another female dog.
Ella has gone on runs of up to 5 miles, walked in the Bothell Fourth of July parade with thousands of people, and rides well in the car. She has good leash manners and knows sit, down, and heel with a training collar.
She is motivated by both food and toys and loves working with her person, making her a great companion for hiking, running, or any adventure. She could do well in many different homes as long as her physical and mental needs are met. She will need a securely fenced yard, ideally over five feet tall, because she is capable of some impressive kangaroo hops.
Ella is crate trained and sleeps quietly through the night. She enjoys meeting new people, but because of her size and enthusiasm, we recommend a home without small children.
If you are looking for a fun, active dog who is eager to learn and be part of everything you do, Ella is ready to meet you.
