Meet Rubues Hagrid. When he first came to the shelter back in August, he had a terrible skin condition with lots of fur loss, needing medicated baths.Initially, he was hesitant about the water running down his body but fast forward a couple of baths later, and this handsome, long-haired boy now happily jumps into the bathtub, ball in mouth, ready for his deluxe bath-and-treat package. Rubues LOVES toys and tennis balls. Truly, fetch is LIFE. When he comes out of his kennel, he bursts out like it's his personal halftime show- lots of excitement, some jumping, and maximum enthusiasm. Once he gets his initial zoomies out, Rubues settles nicely and enjoys going on sniffy walks. When he's calm, he actually walks fairly well on leash with some pulling here and there when a new scent piques his interest. This clever boy has also shown us he might be potty trained. He seems to prefer doing his business outside when let out twice a day, and with more frequent outings, he'll happily keep his space neat and tidy. Remember: there is always a transition period initially in the new home and time and patience are key!Rubues seems to do best with social female dogs and would love a home where he can either be the only dog (so he can hog all the toys) or share his space with a friendly female dog. If he gets a little reactive on leash around other dogs, a simple redirection-calling him to you and walking backwards so he follows-helps him refocus and remember that you (and your treat pouch) are the center of his universe. If you're looking for a handsome, playful, bath-loving, ball-obsessed best friend who will keep you laughing and moving, come by soon and meet Rubues and let the good times roll.To meet me, visit the Bradshaw Animal Shelter Tuesday-Sunday, Noon - 5:00 pm, Wednesdays, Noon - 6:00 pm.
