Thor is a very large, handsome Great Pyrenees with a long, soft coat and an even bigger heart! This gentle, affectionate boy absolutely loves spending time with his people and soaking up human attention. He is confident, loyal, and has no known fears. Thor has good house manners and is housebroken, crate trained, and leash trained. His activity level is low, although he enjoys getting outside to run, explore his surroundings, and take in everything around him. He does not dig or bark and enjoys both indoor and outdoor time.

Thor loves meeting new people and does very well with them. He is okay with children but would be happiest in a home without kids. He can live with cats and does fine around them. He also does well with other dogs as long as food is not involved. Thor generally has little interest in other dogs and prefers to keep his distance, but if another dog gets into his space, he will let them know he wants some room. Because he can become protective of food and other high-value items, he will need an experienced Pyr owner who understands his needs and can provide the right environment and boundaries. He has done well around chickens when they are safely separated, although he does have a history of chasing cows.

Thor's favorite treats include dried chicken, dried salmon, and dog ice cream-although honestly, he loves everything! He responds to his name and will come when called, especially when you have treats in hand. One of Thor's most special qualities is his gentle nature with people. He is a loving, devoted companion who enjoys human attention and will happily be by your side. His ideal home would be with an active family where he can be the only dog, although cats are perfectly fine. He will need secure six-foot privacy fencing, as Thor has demonstrated that he can climb chain-link fences. For the right Pyr-savvy family, this big, gentle, affectionate boy could be a wonderful and loyal companion.

Fees: Adoption fees are determined on a sliding scale depending on age, location and transport. Transport costs are included in the adoption fee. Fees for dogs adopted locally start at $400 and can range up to $700 for puppies under six months. Puppies placed on spay/neuter contracts receive $100 back when the dog is spayed or neutered. Fees for senior dogs (7 or older) and foster dogs will be adjusted accordingly.

Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant's ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.
