Animal #1 | 5-month-old Shepherd mix | Your cuddly little shadow

Animal is a sweet, affectionate 5-month-old Shepherd mix who weighs about 25 pounds and loves being wherever his people are. Affectionately called "Andy" by his foster family, he is friendly with everyone he meets and has no preference between men and women-if you say hello, he is pretty sure you are his new best friend. He loves to follow his people around the house, and when you sit down, he wants to sit right beside you. Once everyone settles in, Animal is happy to settle down too.

Animal is almost completely house trained and will usually stand by the door when he needs to go outside, although he still needs an occasional reminder since he is young. He is also doing great with his kennel training, getting in easily and sleeping through the night. He has been left completely alone and uncrated for 7-8 hours and has done beautifully. He is wonderful with other dogs of all sizes and loves toys, bones, walks, and sniffing all the interesting smells along the way. He is very good on a leash and enjoys chasing balls and stuffed toys, although he hasn't quite figured out that the fun part is bringing them back.

Animal has a medium energy level and is content with a couple of casual 30-minute walks or play sessions each day before happily relaxing on the couch. He is smart, eager to please, and already learning commands such as sit, no, leave it, and down. He is motivated by both food and affection, and apparently the magic word is "turkey"-say it, and he will almost always come running before sitting by the refrigerator waiting for his deli-meat reward.

Animal loves to burrow underneath pillows, toss his stuffed animals around, show you his belly for rubs, and rest his head on you. When he is especially happy, he may even let out a little groan of delight when everyone is home. He has lived happily with children and loves both his foster family's three kids and the neighborhood children. He has not been a great match for the resident cat, however, as he likes to chase and bark at it, so a cat-free home would likely be the best fit.

Like any puppy, Animal is still working through normal puppy behaviors such as play biting and jumping up when he gets excited, but he is a very quick learner and eager to please. He may have spent much of his early life in a shelter after coming from Kansas with his sister, so he is clearly enjoying discovering what it is like to be part of a family. He is looking for a home that will give him plenty of love, guidance, playtime, and companionship. In return, you will get a smart, affectionate, easygoing little guy who would very much like to be your shadow. As with any dog adjusting to a new home, accidents can happen while he settles into his new routine.



If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.

The adoption fee for this pet is $475 (includes a $50 refundable puppy training deposit). Our adoption fee covers the following:

Spay/neuter

Microchip

DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.

Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.

Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption.
