Celery & Onion: Night Owls Seeking Their Kind of HumanWe are Celery and Onion, a bonded pair of clever, quirky cats who do things on our own schedule. We aren't your typical outgoing cats who will immediately greet you at the door, climb into your lap, or make themselves at home in a big, unfamiliar space. We need patience, understanding, and a human who knows that trust is earned rather than demanded. Our favorite time of day? Dusk, of course! That's when our whiskers twitch, our eyes brighten, and we begin our nightly adventures. We're true night owls, and we'd probably be happiest with someone who enjoys staying up late, appreciates a quiet household, and doesn't expect us to operate on a nine-to-five schedule. We're smart cats who have even learned to get used to the Roomba. We're also very treat-motivated, so the way to our hearts may involve a little patience, a few snacks, and a willingness to let us decide when we're ready.Celery's Side of the Story:"Hello, I'm Celery! I'm the more sociable one of this duo, and when evening rolls around, I may wander around meowing to let you know that fresh wet food would be very much appreciated. I also enjoy pets, snuggles, ear scratches, and butt pets - but please remember that I'm the one in charge of when and how these things happen! When I'm feeling comfortable, I'll rub against you and your furniture to spread a little love (and probably some fur). I enjoy affection, but I need it to be on my terms. Let me approach you, listen to my signals, and respect it when I've had enough. If you can do that, we might just become good friends. I may need time to settle in and feel safe before showing you my affectionate side. Please don't take it personally if I need to watch you from a distance first or always. I'm learning that people can be kind, and I need the chance to figure that out for myself."Onion's Side of the Story"Greetings. I'm Onion, the thoughtful observer of the household. I prefer to admire humans from a comfortable distance rather than participate in all that unnecessary socializing. Cuddling? No, thank you. Uninvited pets? Also no, thank you.I do, however, have excellent taste in entertainment. A window with a sturdy, reinforced screen is prime real estate for bird-watching, neighborhood surveillance, and contemplating the mysteries of the universe. An elevated perch in the evening is another favorite, because important observations are best made from above. That said, as long as you are not watching nearby. I want solitude to enjoy my life.I also love treats, and if you bring out the right toy at the right hour of the night, you may discover that I have a playful side. I am clever, curious, and perfectly capable of enjoying life without being a lap cat. Please don't adopt me expecting to change my mind about cuddling or turn me into a cat who seeks human attention. My way of being is valid, too. I need a person who can appreciate me for who I am, even if our relationship looks more like quiet companionship than physical affection."Our Dream Home:We are looking for a calm, patient, kind, and adaptable human who understands that cats are individuals with their own boundaries, personalities, and timelines.A quiet, gentle atmosphere. Loud voices, forceful handling, and pushy interactions are not for us. We need someone who can move slowly, speak softly, and let us approach when we're ready.A night-owl human. We're most active around dusk and into the night. Someone who is comfortable being up late and enjoys our little evening routines would be a wonderful match.Plenty of safe hiding places. We may hide a lot, especially while adjusting to a new home. We need accessible, safe places where we can retreat without being chased, cornered, or pulled out. We also may hide for the rest of our being. If you live in a small space with minimal nooks this will help our bonding.A gradual transition. We do best when we can begin in a smaller, secure space and slowly become comfortable before being given access to a larger home. We need someone who will follow a thoughtful transition plan rather than rushing us into an unfamiliar environment. Slow and steady is the best for us. And we will not be held up to your expectation of your dream cat. If it is not clear now, get with the picture: WE SET THE TERMS NOT YOU.Respect for our individual boundaries IS OUR MOST IMPORTANT REQUEST. Celery may eventually ask for affection, while Onion may prefer to keep his distance indefinitely. Neither of us should be pressured to interact, cuddle, or accept pets. Treats, enrichment, and safe observation spots. We love treats, and we need opportunities to play, explore, watch the world, and settle in at our own pace. Onion especially appreciates elevated perches and secure window-watching spots. A person who can adapt to us is our ideal forever home. Our comfort matters. We need someone who will pay attention to our behavior, adjust the environment to our needs, and recognize that hiding or keeping our distance isn't misbehavior. We may become more comfortable over time, but we may also continue to hide or prefer limited interaction. Even once we're settled, affection is never guaranteed. We need someone who can find joy in small signs of progress without expecting a particular outcome.A Very Important Note From Celery and Onion:We've had an experience that reminded us how important it is to be understood. We need a home where our boundaries, comfort, and individual needs are taken seriously. We aren't looking for someone to make us fit their lifestyle; we're looking for someone willing to build a lifestyle that works for all of us. (Well if we are being honest it only needs to work for us and we are totally happy to watch you bend over backward to meet our needs regardless of your happiness). That means keeping us comfortable, respecting our signals, being mindful of the temperature and our environment, and never forcing interactions just because you want us to feel at home faster. Our future person must be patient enough to let trust grow, observant enough to notice when we're uncomfortable, and adaptable enough to change course when something isn't working. We need someone who understands that progress isn't always linear and that a cat who hides is communicating a need for safety, not asking to be coaxed out.We are not a good fit for first-time cat owners. We need someone with experience who understands feline body language, consent, stress signals, gradual introductions, and the importance of safe spaces. Our adoption is not a situation to approach with the assumption that you'll be the exception who changes everything. You are not special---we are (I mean have you seen how gorgeous we are!).Please apply only if you can meet these needs and are genuinely comfortable letting us set the pace. We would rather wait for the right home than be placed somewhere that isn't equipped to support us. We have our own little personalities, our own routines, and our own ways of showing that we're beginning to feel safe. We may not be the cats who greet you with open paws on day one, but with the right person, we hope we can enjoy a peaceful life filled with cozy hiding spots, tasty treats, nighttime adventures, and the freedom to be exactly who we are.If you believe kindness means listening, patience means waiting, and love means respecting boundaries, we might just be your kind of cats.Love (from a respectful distance, if you please),Celery & Onion
