Panic! at the Disco | 2-3-year-old Chi/Rat Terrier mix | Your little Disco Boy
Affectionately called "Disco Boy" by his foster family, Panic! at the Disco is an 8-pound Chi/Rat Terrier mix who is a sweet combination of playful, cuddly, shy, and just a little bit quirky. He loves toys, snuggling under the covers, and being close to his people. He also has an adorable little mouth-play routine that will make you smile. Disco came to us from Denver Animal Shelter as an owner surrender and was extremely skinny when he arrived, weighing less than 7 pounds. He has done wonderfully since then and is now at a healthy weight.
Disco is still learning that the world is a safe and wonderful place. He can be nervous around strangers and takes considerably longer to warm up to women, although he seems to feel quite comfortable with men. Once he trusts you, though, he is a loving little guy who enjoys affection and attention. He does well with other small and same-size dogs and really wants a little canine friend to play with. He is also completely uninterested in the resident cat. His experience with children has been limited, but he has done well with the kids he has met.
Disco is a medium-energy guy who is happy with some casual activity and then ready to settle down on the couch. He loves running around the yard and is still working on becoming comfortable with walks, as he isn't a big fan of the leash. He can be a little nervous when having his harness put on or taken off, so his adopter will need to be patient and respectful of his boundaries.
House training is still very much a work in progress, so his new family will need to be patient and consistent as he learns. He has been left loose in the house for 5-6 hours and, after some initial whining and barking, settles down just fine. He isn't currently kennel trained because his foster family doesn't use a kennel. Disco is very food motivated-understandably so, given how skinny he was when he arrived-and he is still learning to take treats politely. He doesn't know any formal commands yet, but he's a work in progress on several levels, and structure and boundaries have been going well for him.
Disco's ideal home would be a patient family, preferably with a man or men with whom he can build a relationship, and ideally another small dog who would enjoy having a little playmate. He doesn't need a marathon runner for an adopter, but he does need someone willing to give him time to build confidence, continue working on house training, and help him become the happy, confident little dog we know he can be. And, of course, someone who won't mind sharing the covers.
If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.
The adoption fee for this pet is $400. Our adoption fee covers the following:
Spay/neuter
Microchip
DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.
Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.
Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption.
