Meet Maxine: A Special Girl Looking for Her Forever Family

Maxine is a beautiful 2-year-old terrier mix with a remarkable spirit and so much love to give. Born blind, Maxine has never let her disability define her. In fact, anyone who meets her quickly realizes that she doesn't see herself as any different from any other dog. She confidently navigates her home, yard, and even stairs with ease, embracing life with joy, curiosity, and determination.

A year ago, Maxine thought she had found her forever home. She was deeply loved by her family, and they loved her right back. Unfortunately, despite working with trainers and trying every possible solution, Maxine developed an irresistible urge to chase the family's cat. When their veterinarian determined that the cat's stress levels were seriously affecting her health, her family was faced with an impossible decision. With heavy hearts, they returned Maxine to our rescue, hoping we could help her find the perfect home where she could truly thrive.

Now Maxine is waiting for her second chance.

This sweet girl is happiest when she's surrounded by people who love her. She's accustomed to having her family nearby and enjoys being part of daily life. While she is crate-trained when needed, she'd much rather be spending time with her humans, exploring the world by their side.

Maxine loves adventure. Walks and hikes are among her favorite things, and she would be thrilled to join an active family who enjoys spending time outdoors. A fenced yard would be wonderful, but an adopter who enjoys regular walks and outdoor activities would make her just as happy.

She gets along well with other dogs and would enjoy having a playful canine companion. However, she would do best with dogs who appreciate an energetic friend rather than senior dogs looking for peace and quiet. Because of her strong prey drive, Maxine cannot live with cats.

In her foster home, Maxine has done wonderfully with children who are old enough to understand and respect that she is blind. She has no food aggression and no significant behavioral issues. Occasionally, she may bark when startled, so a quieter home rather than apartment living would likely be the best fit for her.

At 25 pounds, Maxine is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, and in excellent health. More than anything, she is a gentle, affectionate soul who deserves the security and love of a family who will cherish her forever.

Maxine has already experienced both love and loss in her young life. Through it all, she has remained trusting, happy, and full of hope. Somewhere out there is the family she's been waiting for, a family who will see beyond her blindness and recognize the extraordinary dog she truly is.
