Meet Apricot, a sweet and brave little senior companion! At just 15 pounds, this sweet girl may be small, but she has a huge heart. She absolutely loves her people and warms up incredibly quickly. Once she knows you, she'll happily follow you everywhere, give you plenty of kisses, and look for every opportunity to be close to you. Her favorite place is wherever her person is-and preferably in your arms! She also LOVES treats, so she's very motivated by positive reinforcement.Although she is mostly blind, she doesn't let her visual impairment slow her down. She gets around remarkably well and uses her excellent hearing-and especially her people's voices-to navigate her world. She may bump into things occasionally, but she is otherwise calm, mobile, and independent. With a little time to learn a new environment, she settles in beautifully.She would do best in a quiet, predictable home with a safe layout and only a few stairs. She can manage a small number of stairs, but a home without many of them would be ideal. Keeping furniture and the general layout consistent will help her feel confident.She enjoys short sniffy walks, lounging, sunbathing, cuddling, and simply being near her people. She walks very nicely on leash; because of her vision impairment, she does best when her person talks to her and helps guide her along. She is generally very quiet. The only exception is some initial barking or protesting when she first goes into a crate. She is still working on crate training and improving all the time, though she may ultimately do perfectly well without one.She has wonderful manners and is remarkably calm. There's no chewing or darting, and she takes life at a comfortable pace. She can get startled by high-energy or pushy dogs, but she does very well with polite, respectful dogs and even enjoys snuggling with canine companions. She tends to mostly ignore other dogs and doesn't seem particularly bothered by them.She appreciates gentle handling, especially because she can be startled by unexpected interactions. A patient family willing to give her a little extra support during her first few days would be wonderful. Once she learns the space and understands where her people are, she becomes surprisingly independent. Most of all, she wants to be with her people. She follows their voices from room to room and doesn't want to miss out on whatever they're doing. She loves staring lovingly into your eyes-even though she likely can't actually see them-and curling up somewhere comfortable. This brave little girl is incredibly mobile, adaptable, and independent for a visually impaired dog. Give her a little patience, a safe environment, and a loving family, and she can truly thrive anywhere. Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
