At Chicago Rescue Authority, our mission is to create a compassionate world where every animal is treated with love, respect, and dignity. We are dedicated to educating the public about the adverse realities of the mass-production industry for puppies, raising awareness about responsible pet adoption and ownership, and actively working towards reducing the overpopulation of dogs in shelters.

Help Us Clear the Shelters
Chicago Rescue Authority is joining NBC & Telemundo's Clear The Shelters — the nationwide adoption campaign that's helped more than one million pets find homes since 2015. Adoption specials run all August long — our event page has the details, in-person event days, and the pets waiting to meet you.
Our Mission
About Us
Chicago Rescue Authority came about because of two best friends with a dream of saving dogs. Serenity and Megan had a combined 25 years of dog rescue experience between them and one day they decided that they could make the biggest difference if they put all their experience together and started a rescue.

Adoption Process
Chicago Rescue Authority does not operate on a first-come-first-serve basis. Each application is weighed based on how suitable of a home they can provide for each individual dog, and in the case of multiple puppies in a litter, we match the puppy to the adopter based on personality and needs rather than on physical appearance. We find that this leads to a much higher number of long-term adoption successes and far fewer returns on adopted animals.
Our adoption team works diligently to read through each application and check veterinary references to ensure our pets are being placed with responsible, safe individuals. Applicants will answer some basic questions about their lifestyle and expectations for a new pet via email before our team determines if they are a match for the dog they would like to adopt, at which point they will be invited to meet the dog and be given the opportunity to finalize an adoption.
How to Meet Our Pets
Our adoptable pets can be met at any of our adoption events this month or by submitting an application online and being approved as an adopter for that specific animal.
Special Programs & Areas Served
Special Programs: The Last Litter Initiative takes on pregnant or nursing community dogs whose family cannot properly support them and raises the litter and mom until weaning and spay/neuter. Once the mom is up to date on vaccines and spayed, she is returned to her family with a contract to ensure her lifelong care and the puppies are placed up for adoption and placed in loving homes where they will never contribute to the pet overpopulation problem in our country.
Areas Served: Chicago and nearby suburbs.
