Our adoption process is designed to ensure the best possible match for both the animal and the adopter. Interested adopters complete an adoption application, followed by a review of their information, reference and veterinary checks (when applicable), and a meet-and-greet with the animal. Once approved, the adoption is finalized with an adoption contract and adoption fee. All adoptable animals receive age-appropriate veterinary care, and medical records are provided at the time of adoption.
We also offer a Foster-to-Adopt program for eligible animals that are still completing their veterinary care. This allows approved applicants to welcome the animal into their home as a foster while the animal finishes vaccinations, spay/neuter, or other required medical treatment. Once the animal is fully vetted, the adoption contract is signed, the adoption is finalized, and ownership is officially transferred to the adopter.
Our team remains available before, during, and after adoption to provide guidance and support, helping every animal find a safe, loving, and permanent home.

Ruby Whiskers Animal Rescue is a 100% foster-based, nonprofit animal rescue dedicated to saving the lives of homeless, abandoned, neglected, and at-risk cats and dogs. We believe every animal deserves a second chance and work to provide compassionate care, safe foster homes, and the medical treatment needed to prepare them for loving forever families. Beyond rescue and adoption, we are committed to educating our community on responsible pet ownership, promoting spay and neuter, supporting foster families, and building partnerships with local businesses and volunteers to make a lasting impact. Adoption Process
How to Meet Our Pets
Our adoptable pets can be viewed online through Petfinder and at our adoption events. Because we are a 100% foster-based rescue, our animals are not housed at a public facility. To ensure the safety and well-being of our pets, meet-and-greets are scheduled by appointment only after an adoption application has been submitted and approved. This allows us to make the best possible match while minimizing stress on our foster animals.

Special Programs: Special initiatives include our Foster-to-Adopt program, medical foster care, neonatal kitten fostering, community education, volunteer opportunities, and partnerships with local businesses to support rescue efforts and improve animal welfare.
Areas Served: Ruby Whiskers Animal Rescue primarily serves Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana. We consider adoptions throughout Illinois and other states on a case-by-case basis when applicants meet our adoption requirements.
