Our Mission

Working together to improve Riverside County for people and animals.

About Us

The Riverside County Department of Animal Services is dedicated to protecting the health, safety, and welfare of animals while strengthening the bond between pets and the people who love them. Serving one of the largest geographic regions in California, our shelter provides compassionate care, lifesaving medical treatment, adoption services, foster opportunities, and community support programs for thousands of animals each year. Our mission is to create positive outcomes for pets and families through responsible sheltering, humane education, and partnerships that expand access to lifesaving resources. Through events like Clear the Shelters, we are able to connect more animals with loving homes and give each pet the chance to begin a new chapter filled with safety, care, and belonging.

Adoption Process

Adopting a pet from our organization is designed to be simple, welcoming, and accessible. All adoptions are completed in person at our shelter locations or during scheduled adoption events—no appointments or background checks are required.

Our staff is available throughout the process to answer questions, introduce you to available animals, and help you find the right match for your home and lifestyle.

All pets are spayed or neutered and microchipped prior to adoption. If an animal is too young for surgery at the time of adoption, an appointment for spay/neuter will be scheduled as part of the adoption process.

We are committed to making pet adoption an easy and positive experience—for both you and your future companion.
