Description

WE ARE NOT A SHELTER. WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE: To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in.

Here is the Dog Application that you can copy and paste into a browser: https://fs17.formsite.com/waverlypetrescue/form028182466/index.html

Bagel was a stray in Bremer County, Iowa. He did not have a microchip and he did not get claimed. His time was up so Waverly Pet Rescue took him in. Bagel is now up to date on shots, heartworm negative, and neutered.

Bagel is about 1-1/2 years old as of March 2025 and weighs around 50 pounds. He is very friendly with people. Absolutely loves belly rubs. Think he could lay there all day to get them if you let him. He does not get along with all dogs. There are some he plays really well with and others he wants to pick on. Would definitely introduce him to another dog if you have one before you decide to adopt him. He is young yet and has a lot of energy and likes to chew on things. If he is playing, getting love, or occupied with bones and chews, he does good. He is good in his kennel. He needs a family who can keep him busy with lots of love and attention.

Bagel had a hot spot on his rear end, when found as a stray. A Hot spot is usually caused by bacteria and moisture. Since he had fleas and did a lot of licking and chewing at his rear end, that is most likely the cause. He also has some scabbed areas on his back that are healing or healed. His hot spots are healing nicely.

Bagel needs a fenced in yard to keep him safe, so this fence is required. With his beagle breed, he is a flight risk so you will also want him on a leash at all times when not in that fenced in yard.

Bagel has not been around cats in a home. He was around them at a vet office and he did not react to the cats in their cages. It is possible he would be ok with cats, but we do not know that for sure.

3/27/25 UPDATE: Bagel's foster mom noticed an odor & he was chewing his food gingerly, so we took him to the vet. Bagel had a severe tooth root infection extending to & resulting in an infection of the lower jaw. Five associated teeth were removed due to infection. Due to the severity of changes to the lower jaw it is high likely that area of the jaw will necrose and die, there is a small chance that this is a bony tumor & we are sending off a piece to rule out cancer as a cause of the abnormal bone. This will help guide our treatment long term. Bagel will be placed on pain medications & antibiotics for 6 weeks.

4/7/25: Excellent news that Bagel's test came back, and he does not have cancer! His infection is improving, and he is getting better. He has checkups with our vet to confirm his progress and how he is doing. Glad the infection was treated and he is on the way to recovery now!

5/27/25 UPDATE: Bagel had another check-up at the vet today and he is fully healed! Hooray! He is ready for his forever home! Please apply today for this sweet and friendly boy!

Will someone please adopt Bagel and give him a forever home? $100.00 adoption fee.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to [email protected]

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $350 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
