Meet Rex - 49 pounds of spots, smarts, and some very questionable paperwork.
Rex is listed as an 8-year-old mixed breed. Rex has declined to comment, but his behavior is not supporting the allegation.
If you met him without knowing his age, you'd probably guess much younger. He's curious, active and always interested in what might be happening next. His teeth suggest he may indeed have some years under his belt, but Rex certainly hasn't gotten the memo that he's supposed to be slowing down.
Then there's the bigger mystery: What IS Rex?
That incredible coat immediately brings Catahoula Leopard Dog to mind, possibly mixed with Hound or something else entirely. He has a gorgeous mottled coat, enormous brown eyes, a pink-and-black nose, ears that seem to have minds of their own, and one seriously great smile. Whatever breeds went into making him, they created a pretty spectacular-looking dog.
While in foster, Rex has also proven to be an impressively good houseguest. He appears to be housebroken and crate trained, walks nicely on a leash, comes when called, knows "sit" and even understands "go to your room." Tell him an area of the house is off-limits and he'll wait rather than barging through. He hasn't shown any destructive behavior or aggression, and he doesn't jump on people.
He's affectionate, too, but not demanding about it. Rex is perfectly happy to cuddle up and enjoy some love, but he doesn't need to be attached to a human every waking moment. He's not particularly licky, he's not drooly, and we're not sure anyone has heard him bark.
That does NOT mean he has nothing to say.
Rex talks.
He makes funny little vocalizations when he has an opinion to share, which only adds to the mystery of what might be hiding in his DNA. He's less "guard dog sounding the alarm" and more "roommate with commentary."
Around the house, Rex has a bit of a "So... what are we doing now?" personality. He tends to pace around looking for something to do, but he isn't bouncing off the walls or jumping all over people. Toys haven`t exactly rocked his world, either. A stuffed animal might earn a little attention, but Rex would much rather hear you pick up the leash.
Walk? YES.
Go somewhere? YES.
Adventure? Where are we going?
He seems like a dog who would thrive in an active home where he gets regular walks, outings and opportunities to be included in whatever his people are doing. At the same time, once there's nothing on the agend
