Adoption Process
At Nassau County Animal Services, we strive to make the adoption experience welcoming, efficient, and rewarding for both pets and their future families. Prospective adopters are encouraged to visit our facility and walk through the kennels to view available dogs, while our staff is also happy to introduce specific animals and facilitate one-on-one meet-and-greets. For those interested in cats, guests are welcome to spend time interacting with them in a relaxed environment to ensure a comfortable and meaningful connection. To help ensure a successful and safe transition, we welcome adopters to bring their children and/or current dogs to meet a potential new pet prior to adoption. These introductions allow families to observe interactions firsthand and feel confident in their decision. Once an adopter has found a potential match, they complete a brief adoption application. After approval, the pet may go home the same day with their new owner. To further support successful placements, adoption fees may be waived during select promotions. All animals adopted from Nassau County Animal Services are spayed or neutered and current on vaccinations prior to leaving the facility. Additionally, we offer “sleepover” opportunities for select pets, allowing potential adopters to take an animal home temporarily to ensure it is the right fit for their household.
Mission Statement
Nassau County Animal Services (NCAS) promotes and protects public safety and animal welfare through proactive sheltering, adoption programs, education, and animal law enforcement. Our mission focuses on fostering compassion, responsible pet ownership, and community partnerships to care for animals and serve the residents of Nassau County.
