Meet Antoinette!Antoinette is a long-haired Dachshund born July 8, 2020, with a gentle heart, an independent streak, and a personality that is well worth taking the time to get to know.Antoinette likes to take her time getting to know new people-she's not handing out best-friend status on the first date. But give her the time to figure out that you're safe, and suddenly the girl who was keeping her distance has become your tiny Velcro shadow. Once you're one of her people, Antoinette bonds deeply and loves being close to you. Her affection may take a little longer to earn, but once you have it, you'll get to see just how loving, loyal, and wonderfully attached to her people this little girl can be.Other dogs are a huge source of comfort and confidence for Antoinette. She adores her foster siblings-especially the resident dachshund-and will need another dog in her forever home. She also does great with cats. Older, dog-savvy children would be the best fit, as younger children and their quick movements can be a little scary for her.Antoinette is potty trained, although she may have some accidents while adjusting to a new environment or when she's nervous, and she absolutely loves her kennel. She appreciates a calmer, predictable approach and can be startled by loud noises, fast movements, or being unexpectedly picked up from behind. And don't let her sophisticated name fool you. Antoinette is perfectly happy rolling around in the dirt, lounging outside with her foster siblings, and sunbathing for as long as someone will let her. Given the choice, this little lady may happily spend an entire afternoon soaking up the sunshine.Antoinette will do best with experienced dog owners who understand shy dogs and are willing to let trust develop at her pace. Familiarity with dachshunds and their wonderfully unique personalities would be a definite plus. Her new family will also need to be especially cautious with doors and gates during her adjustment period. When Antoinette is unsure of a new environment, she can be a very quick little escape artist. Once she feels safe and knows she's home, this behavior settles considerably.Antoinette may need a little extra time to decide you're her person, but once she does, she is ALL IN. Give her patience, consistency, and a canine buddy to help show her the ropes, and one day you'll wonder when the shy little dachshund became the tiny shadow who simply loves being near you. With Antoinette, the best part isn't just earning her trust-it's getting to be the person she chooses. The suggested adoption fee for Antoinette is $495. Bullies-N-Beyond is a 501(c)3, non-profit corporation that is 100%% volunteer operated.
