Barkville Dog Rescue

Rescue

BarkVille Dog Rescue, formerly known as BarkTown Dog Rescue & Sanctuary, is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization committed to saving dogs of all breeds, sizes and ages. We are a non-breed specific rescue, and we do not exclude dogs due to extensive medical needs. Our goal is to save dogs in the most need of rescue assistance, including older dogs, medically challenged dogs, and PitBull Terrier type dogs. We work with our friends and donors to raise the funds necessary to provide life-saving treatments for the dogs we rescue and to identify the best foster situations for the dogs in our care.

Dogs in our care are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment needed prior to adoption. Our dogs are then placed in a nurturing foster home while they await placement into their permanent home. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of our dogs beyond the adoption process.

Our goal is to help dogs in distress without regard to age, breed, size, or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow, dogs in the greatest need take priority.

Our cost to provide basic veterinary care to a dog is about $300 and covers all necessary vaccines, spay/neuter and microchip. If the dog tests positive for Heartworm disease (as many of our GA stray dogs do), the additional cost to treat heartworms is approximately $500-$600. For dogs with injuries requiring specialized treatment and/or surgery, costs can easily increase into the thousands.

When BarkVille becomes aware of a dog in need, we immediately get to work posting the dog on our social media platforms and networking with our internet friends & partners to make people aware of the dog’s situation. We raise funds and solicit for fosters, and once we have both, we transport the dog to one our partner vets as quickly as possible.

We strive to work with area shelters and other rescue groups to develop a network of supporters and volunteers to create a better world for homeless dogs.
