My story began near a university, where some students noticed I was in trouble. I had a deep wound around my neck - it looked like I had been tied tightly with a rope for a very long time. I was hurting and alone, but those kind students didn't ignore me. They called a rescue, and a wonderful worker came in a taxi to bring me to safety.I received medical care right away for my neck, and slowly I began to heal - on the outside and the inside. With treatment, rest, and gentle hands, my wound healed beautifully. Even after everything, I never lost my sweet spirit. I still believe people can be kind.Right now, I'm living in a shelter with many other animals who are also waiting for their second chance. I've made some doggy friends here and enjoy playing with them. I've also met cats - they're interesting creatures! I tend to keep a respectful distance and observe. The volunteers are so kind to me. I love when they bring treats (yum!) and walk time is very special. I'm learning leash manners and enjoy spending one-on-one time with my humans.I'm a gentle, affectionate girl who really wants to please. I bond closely with kind people and look to my humans for guidance. I'm eager to learn - especially if treats are involved! I enjoy toys and get extra happy when someone plays with me. I have a soft, sensitive nature and do best with patience and positive reinforcement. Every day, I'm growing more confident and learning that the world can be safe.I hope to find a forever home where I can truly belong. I'd love a person or family who will continue to show me the kindness I've just begun to know, and help me keep growing in confidence and happiness. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if the dog is shown to be good with children we will approve homes with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website. While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. You will NOT be charged the passenger fee in addition to this.
