Hi, It's me again. Louis Vuitton. Can you believe it? Neither can I, but here I am. My adopter gave me four days to warm up. Because I'm a slow burn, that didn't happen quickly enough. Plus, the very nice woman has a grandbaby that cries, which scared me and had me thinking I needed to be on alert for intruders. I am an excellent alert dog, but I just didn't know a crying baby was to be ignored.
My foster mom says the three day rule to adjust to new situations for dogs and cats doesn't apply to me because I'm special. I was excited when she came and got me. After licking her face off, I adjusted right back into my routine at her house. It took me seven days with her the first time, so I'm hopeful there's another someone like her out there who can give me the time I need to be the best little frog prince a person or family could want. Thanks for reading the fine print of what my foster mom has to add in the subsequent paragraphs! Sincerely, Louis.
Louis came in with a pinpoint eye ulcer, for which he has been treated. His sight appears unaffected, but he does have scarring on his cornea, which may heal with time. However, his adopter will want to consult a vet and be aware of the situation.
Louis is very loving once he's sure you're an okay human. He will growl at strangers, give an alert bark, but there is absolutely no bite behind it. Think of him like the wannabe you knew in middle school. When he's happiest, he makes cute pig grunts. He gets along with cats and doesn't mind big dogs as long as they don't play rough, but he seems to prefer the cats. His favorite spot in the house is wherever his human is, especially in the evenings. Louis is crate-trained and likes it when you leave some soothing music playing low. He is an excellent bedfellow as well.
Louis does well on a leash and will go potty when directed to do so. He'd make a wonderful travel companion for a retired motor home enthusiast! He enjoys being outside on his leash or sitting on the porch with his human watching the world go by. Because he is small, it's recommended he be outside in a secured fenced area only under supervision.
Louis displays energy and athleticism and can jump pretty high and run very fast if given the chance. He seems to understand Sit and Lie Down, though it isn't yet consistent. His favorite toys are small plush or rubber squeaks, which he loves to fetch and return for another throw. When playing fetch, his boundless energy will require his human to enforce breaks in play and reminders to drink water due to his face type. He will not play fetch or engage with his toys when unfamiliar people are in the room. Once he sorts out they are trusted by his foster mom, he goes back to playing.
Once he joins his new family, he WILL NEED TIME, patience, and lots of cuddles to feel safe and secure again. He will likely choose one person, if it is a family, to whom he bonds. Introductions to other family members, neighbors, etc. should wait until he's secure that he's staying with you. When that happens, the family will have a devoted, intelligent, goofy, and protective companion.
Do you have the time and room in your life to establish such a bond with Louis? He'd love if you were someone who stays at home most of the day or someone who would take him along on errands when possible or on daily walks.
He wouldn't be suitable in a home where everyone is gone for eight to twelve hours or the house is full of mass chaos, at least not yet. Crying babies put him on alert, so he'd be best in a home with older children or teenagers who just ignore him until he seeks them out. He has a cat personality in that way.
