Roberto

Roberto is a young Chihuahua with a big personality packed into a tiny, adorable body. He's equal parts playful and snuggly - the kind of pup who will happily chase a toy one minute (he's still perfecting the "bring it back" part!) and then curl right into your arms the next.

This smart little guy catches on quickly and thrives on routine. He already knows commands like "come," "outside," and "go potty," and is doing great with potty training when his cues - like waiting by the door - are noticed. He's very food motivated (he's never met a treat he didn't love!) and will absolutely try to sneak a peek at what's happening on the counter - his jumping skills are impressive and a little Olympic-worthy.

Roberto loves to play - especially wrestling and romping with other dogs of any size - but he doesn't require a canine companion as long as his people are around often. He bonds closely with his humans and wants to be wherever you are, whether that's following you from room to room or burrowing under the covers at bedtime. He sleeps soundly through the night and is happiest when he's close to his person.

He can be a little vocal at first when meeting new people or hearing unfamiliar noises, but he warms up quickly - especially if treats and gentle pets are involved. Because of this, he would do best in a home without shared walls. He's also sensitive to loud noises, so a calmer environment will help him feel most secure.

Roberto is still working on feeling comfortable in a crate, but with his intelligence and eagerness to please, he'll continue to make progress with patience and consistency.

Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter's expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe.
