Meet Sammy, a truly special bunny with a resilient spirit and a heart full of quiet sweetness. Sammy was found on the side of the road in February 2025 after surviving outside with a group of other rabbits believed to be his siblings and mother. When he arrived at the Center, it was quickly discovered that he had multiple fractures in his right femur, likely from an older injury.
After consultations with multiple veterinarians, including orthopedic specialists at OSU, it was determined that amputation would not be the best option for Sammy because he also has a partially dislocated left hip. Removing the injured leg would place too much strain on the other side of his body. Thankfully, Sammy has adapted remarkably well. His leg has healed in its own way, and today he runs, jumps, binkies, and uses a regular litter box with excellent habits.
Sammy has been recovering in a loving medical foster home where he has been able to heal and gain confidence. He currently does not require pain medication, though it may be beneficial for him in the future as he ages. For now, he receives a daily Oxbow joint support supplement to help keep his joints as healthy as possible.
Personality-wise, Sammy is a gentle and sensitive boy. He is not especially demanding of human attention and prefers affection on his own terms, but he is incredibly sweet. His foster mom believes he would thrive most with a bunny companion, as he seems happiest with rabbit company and would likely enjoy having a bonded friend to help him feel secure and confident.
One of the cutest things about Sammy is how well he knows his name - when you call "Sammy!" he gets visibly excited and happy. He is looking for a patient, understanding home that will love him exactly as he is and appreciate the special little bunny he has become.
