Medical Disclosure: Polyuria and Polydipsia
This cat has been observed drinking and urinating more than what is considered normal. There are many possible causes for increased drinking and urination in cats, including kidney disease, diabetes, thyroid disease, urinary tract infections, or other metabolic conditions. Due to the shelters limited resources we have not performed diagnostic testing, so we do not know the underlying cause. Because we cannot determine the reason for his increased thirst and urination in the shelter, we recommend that adopters have him evaluated by their regular veterinarian soon after adoption. Your veterinarian may recommend screening bloodwork and a urinalysis to look for common causes. Depending on results, additional treatment or follow-up may be needed. Any medical evaluations or care after adoption will be the responsibility of the adopter.
