Alvie has now been in my home for several months. She started out almost ravaged and always on the defensive. With time and her spay surgery, she has settled in. She now knows that food is always available to her and love is unconditional. Having come from what sounds like a hoarding situation, she has also learned that her litter boxes are always clean and ready for her here and adaptable to her needs (she stands when she urinates instead of squatting, so a high sided litter box works great for her). Alvie cohabitated with my resident cats at first, but she has made it clear the longer she's here that she prefers her own space away from other cats. She will need to be the only cat in her new home. She has no qualms with the 2 senior Pomeranians whatsoever.
Alvie loves toys, especially springs and plastic rings that she can bat around and pounce on. She also carries catnip mice around in her mouth calling to me to check out her daily catch.
Alvie's favorite place is still perched in the window. She enjoys the cat heating pad as well from time to time while taking the world's most peaceful looking naps. She is very loving to people and has come to lay with me on the couch, nestling into my neck and purring away. She thoroughly enjoys being brushed, which is super helpful since it cuts down on her incredible ability to shed.
Alvie is one of the few cats that have arrived at my house purring and confident. Deep down, though, it was clear she needed time to decompress and truly feel safe and cared for. Now that she has acclimated I'm confident her next transition period will be shorter. Fair warning- she will definitely be loud, however, while she checks out her new home and would do best to start out in an enclosed room so she can feel safe & secure and find the litter box in her new space.
Alvie has been spayed, is up to date on her vaccines and preventives, and had a dental cleaning to address some dental disease. One of her pupils is permanently dilated which has been evaluated by the vet who didn't find any underlying concerns. She also seems to be hard of hearing which I think contributes to her apprehensiveness around other cats.
Alvie would be a great companion for someone who wants to have a shadow follow them around the house. She would love to be the center of someone's universe for the first time having all the attention to herself.
