Meet Ruthie!

Ruthie is a sweet 2-year-old Dachshund/Terrier mix weighing in at just 19 pounds. She's spayed, up to date on all of her vaccinations, housebroken, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs.

Ruthie's story hasn't been an easy one. She came from a hoarding situation where she had very little human interaction, so the world can still feel like a scary place. Because of this, she is extremely shy and takes time, patience, and understanding before she learns to trust new people. She isn't the kind of dog who will greet you with tail wags on day one-but if you're willing to let her move at her own pace, the reward is truly something special.

Once Ruthie decides you're her person, she transforms into the biggest cuddle bug. She loves snuggling close and quietly soaking up all the love she missed out on early in life. One of her foster family's favorite milestones is hearing her excited little bark when breakfast and dinner are being prepared. It may seem like a small thing, but after spending her first two weeks showing almost no emotion, it was a huge sign that she was finally feeling safe and happy. Ruthie is very food and treat motivated, which has been a wonderful tool in helping build her confidence.

Ruthie enjoys spending time outdoors, especially lounging in the sunshine. She does not enjoy walking on a leash and is considered a flight risk, so she will need a securely fenced yard where she can safely explore and relax. Because of her timid nature, she is looking for a patient, experienced adopter who understands fearful dogs and will give her the time she needs without rushing the process.

She would love a confident canine companion to show her the ropes, but she could also thrive as an only dog with the right person. Ruthie has not been tested with cats or children.
