[email protected]About Jabari
Breed: Terrier/Poodle mix
Age: 3 years
Color: Black, white & tan
Gender: Male (not neutered)
Vaccines: Not current
Location: Sacramento, CA
Reason for Rehoming: Not comfortable living with very young children; nervous in a busy household
Jabari has been with his owner since he was a young dog and is affectionate with adults he trusts. He is being rehomed to find a calmer, child-free environment where he can feel confident and safe.
Important Behavior Notes (Full Transparency)
Jabari can be fearful, especially around children or when startled. This fear has led to some concerning behaviors:
Has bitten once when scared (broke skin; no stitches required)
Has shown growling, snarling, lunging, and snapping when nervous
Barks and lunges at visitors from inside his crate
Does not like having food or toys taken from him
He is crate trained and feels more secure when he has his own space.
Because of these behaviors, Jabari needs an experience dog owner, preferably someone familiar with fear-based behaviors and positive reinforcement training.
✨ Positive Traits & Personality
Very affectionate once he feels safe
Bonds closely with his caregiver
Loyal and attentive
Has lived primarily indoors
Crate trained
He truly wants to be loved - he just needs the right environment and patient adopter.
Ideal Home for Jabari
Jabari will thrive in a home that is:
Adult-only - no children
Calm and structured
Free of frequent visitors
Willing to continue training and confidence-building
Ideally without other pets (slow, experienced homes may consider)
His new family should take things slow and allow him to decompress at his own pace.
Veterinary Notes
Jabari has not seen a veterinarian recently and is not current on vaccines. His future adopter should be ready to schedule a vet visit and discuss neutering.
