Meet gorgeous Gwen! This longhaired buff cat came to the Shelter after being found as a stray in Watsonville. A good Samaritan had been seeing her around the neighborhood for some time. When she continued to be seen and no one came forward, the good Samaritan brought her in to safety. Staff observed that Gwen has been affectionate, full of purrs and gives sweet, small meows. Although she has previously lived outside, Gwen is enjoying the perks of living indoors â the soft beds, toys, and close proximity to good scritches from people. Due to her light coloration, long hair, and easy acclimation thus far â we are recommending a safe, indoor home for Gwen moving forward. We donât have any history of Gwen with other animals but with a slow, thoughtful introduction she may do well. From Friday, May 1st through Sunday May 10th, the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is participating in Empty the Shelters. The adoption fee is reduced to $50 for all cats, dogs and rabbits in our care. Empty the Shelters is the nationâs largest funded adoption event centered around helping homeless pets find families by making adoption affordable for prospective pet owners. Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them
