Meet Barkley, the 5 year old pittie mix dog. Barkley arrived at the Shelter after his previous guardian lost his housing and, despite his best efforts, was unable to find a place for him and Barkley to be able to live together. Barkley was very well loved in his previous home and was in that home since the age of 6 weeks old. He has a history of living with children (the youngest being 5 years old) and doing well. He is also noted to be friendly with people. He went to a doggy boarding facility on and off when his guardian was needing some coverage of care. He has met dogs at the Shelter and has shown interest but was a bit cautious to approach. Any resident dogs should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. Barkley has not lived with cats or small animals. Barkley was noted to be house trained in his previous home. His favorite activities were going for walks and hanging out on the couch afterwards with his person. From Friday, May 1st through Sunday May 10th, the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is participating in Empty the Shelters. The adoption fee is reduced to $50 for all cats, dogs and rabbits in our care. Empty the Shelters is the nationâs largest funded adoption event centered around helping homeless pets find families by making adoption affordable for prospective pet owners. Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
