General Notes | Howdy y'all, I'm Texas! The white marking on my back looked like the Lone Star state when I was born so I was given the name Texas. I like to think it was also because my foster family knew I was the real Star of this litter - with my soft fur, petite size, gorgeous light eyes, polite nature and southern charm, I truly shine! With a heart as big as my namesake, I'd sure love to find a family of my own to love on soon Personality | I am as sweet as sweet tea on a July porch! Friendly as a front-porch wave, snuggly as your favorite quilt, and playful enough to keep the whole house smilin'. I have been around babies, kitties, kids, dogs, and all kinds of new sights, rooms, and sounds-and have handled it like a true Southern champ. Quick on the uptake and one of the bravest in my bunch, too. If there's action happening, I want a front-row seat… preferably right in your lap. And trust me-there isn't a lap yet that hasn't been personally inspected and approved by me.Story | In early December, Dahlia (Mama) was found roaming the streets of Texas-very pregnant, tired, and clearly searching for kindness and a safe place to land. Against the odds, a compassionate animal lover opened their home to her, and there Dahlia did what she does best: she trusted, she rested, and she became an incredible mama. She safely delivered and has lovingly raised eight healthy puppies, Texas being one of them, now happily growing and beginning to need her less each day.Dogs | Social skills? Honey, I've got 'em in spades. Great with dogs of every age and size-and even managed to charm the grumpiest ol' pup in my foster home into loosening up. I take cues like a pro for such a young'un, watching the resident dogs and copying their moves like, "Yes ma'am, I'll have what they're having." I was born into a litter of eight so sharing and playing nice comes as naturally as saying "y'all."Cats | I have had nothing but good manners with cats - polite as Sunday company and gentle as a warm breeze. If a kitty is part of your crew, I will fit right in like gravy on a biscuit.Children | I have been around kids and have handled it like a pro: happy to say hello, eager to join the fun, and smart enough to settle when it's time to calm down. I am just a little darlin' after all though, so while I love a good snuggle and play session, manners and boundaries are important to me. Children that mind their P's and Q's would be so very much appreciated.Training | Now, we're keepin' it honest as Sunday: crate training, potty training, and sleeping through the night are still cookin'-not quite done in the oven yet. But with a little patience, consistency, and some good ol' praise (and treats, let's be real), I will get there faster than a hound dog chasin' a squirrel.Leash | Too little to leash walk, but will learn with time! Our rescue follows "No Paws on the Ground" (NPOG) as a safety protocol for young puppies, primarily used by veterinarians, shelters, and rescues. It means that an unvaccinated or partially vaccinated puppy should never be allowed to put their feet on the ground in any public or communal area where other dogs or animals may have been. These babies love to play in secure yards, and be snuggled and held on family walks.Activity Level | Moderate lil' sweet pea that loves to nap, play, eat, and repeat! I'm healthy as a horse and up to date on all of my vaccinations- so I'm ready to hit the ground runnin' and start livin' the good life.Health Notes | Checked out and doin' fine, with all the proper pokes and paperwork handled, so you can focus on the fun part: belly rubs, porch sittin', and makin' memories.Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $575 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year old, $525 for 1 - 6 years old, $475 for dogs 7 - 10 years old, and $350 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $625. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, transportation to Colorado, and supplies while in foster care (that currently average over $750 per dog).Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet and greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. We will not respond to emails about animal availability or allow meet and greets without an approved adoption application on file. Please Note | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for one year from the date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!
