General Notes | Quite literally pulled moments before his euthanasia deadline due to being scared and fearful in the shelter, Tonka is hoping for a big break - a forever family, and no more scary days. While his name might bring to mind something tough and indestructible, Tonka is actually a gentle soul who is looking for a very specific kind of sanctuary. He is a "slow-burn" companion-the kind of dog who won't rush to the door to greet a stranger, but who will eventually become your shadow once he knows he is safe.Tonka is currently seeking a special, quiet home where the world moves at a slower pace. He finds comfort in routine and soft voices, and he needs a patient person who understands that trust isn't given instantly-it's earned in small, beautiful increments. With time, a steady hand, and a calm environment, Tonka's true personality begins to emerge: a deeply loyal, loving, and soulful friend who just needed to know the world could be kind. If you have a quiet corner of your home and a large amount of patience in your heart, Tonka is waiting for the chance to show you just how much love he has to give.Want to adopt this dog? To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. We will not respond to emails about animal availability or allow meet and greets without an approved adoption application on file. Please Note | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for one year from the date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!
