General Notes | Sunshine is a gentle soul who may start out a little clouded by shyness, but she truly lives up to her name once she feels safe and loved. This sweet Lab mix observes the world with quiet curiosity, waiting for that special person to show her that life is bright and beautiful. With a bit of patience and a soft touch, you'll watch her personality radiate, proving that the warmest days often follow a quiet morning. Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP, and an Adoption Coordinator will be in touch within a few days. Our standard application processing timeline is 12 - 14 days. Personality | Sunshine is submissive and a little shy. But she is coming out of her shell. There is a teenager in her foster home and many of her friends have come to meet her. She is a little shy at first, but warms up quickly and then loves all the attention. Sunshine is incredibly sweet and adores attention and affection. She truly seems to thrive as a family dog and loves being part of the action with her foster family. Belly rubs and pets are her absolute favorite, followed closely by toys, bones, chews, and a cozy dog bed.She is very puppyish-playful, energetic, and always ready to run and pounce around the backyard. Sunshine has even tried to recruit the resident dog in her foster home for playtime (with little success), but her happy, go-lucky spirit never fades.Story | Sunshine and her 4 siblings were dumped in rural Texas.Other Dogs | Sunshine loves doggy friends! Cats | Sunshine has not been cat tested yet. Children | Sunshine is still decompressing and scared and would probably do best with older kiddos who will give her the space to trust on her own timeline. Training | She is smart, food-motivated, and eager to please, which makes her easy and fun to train. Sunshine is doing great with house training and she loves her crate as it seems to be her safe haven. She does not whine or cry in her crate and sleeps through the night in the crate. She can be found relaxing in her crate during the day while her foster parents are at work, and will even put herself down for naps when they are home. She has done great with her house training as well. She has only had one accident in the house since being in foster care. She definitely has learned that outside is where she goes to the bathroom.Leash | Sunshine had never been on a leash before coming into foster care. She will need some more training, but is learning quickly. She's still a shy girl who will need to build her confidence on the leash! Activity Level | Moderate!Health Notes | Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $575 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year old, $525 for 1 - 6 years old, $475 for dogs 7 - 10 years old, and $350 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $625. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, transportation to Colorado, and supplies while in foster care (that currently average over $750 per dog).Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet and greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. We will not respond to emails about animal availability or allow meet and greets without an approved adoption application on file. Please Note | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for one year from the date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!
