General Notes | Mackie is a nine month old Lab/Golden Retriever mix who is officially leaving his rough start behind and heading west for a "mile-high" upgrade. He was found dumped in a rural area of Texas along with his four siblings. When he first entered foster care, Mackie was timid and shy and had not been well socialized. Since then, his personality has truly flourished. Mackie epitomizes "man's best friend." He is incredibly loving and wants nothing more than to be near his people. Smart and eager to please, he may be treat-motivated, but affection is his greatest reward. He thrives on praise, belly rubs, and hearing what a good boy he is.Once fearful of the backyard and even coming inside the house, Mackie now runs outside confidently with his tail up and wagging, and happily trots back to the door when he's ready to come in. He has embraced indoor life and discovered a love for cozy dog beds, Kongs filled with peanut butter, bones, and pupsicle balls.Despite his difficult beginnings, Mackie is very healthy. He has been fully vetted, neutered, and sports a beautiful, thick, soft coat - along with the sweetest face to match his gentle heart. Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP, and an Adoption Coordinator will be in touch within a few days. Our standard application processing timeline is 12 - 14 days. Personality | Mackie may be a little shy when you first meet him, but comes out of his shell and becomes the happiest, go lucky dog! Story | Mackie and his 4 sisters were dumped in rural Texas. Other Dogs | Mackie does great with other dogs. He is in foster care with an older, grouchy terrier mix. He tried to play with her once and she gave him an emphatic "no" and he hasn't tried since. They sniff around the yard together and hang out.Cats | Mackie has not been cat tested yet. Children | Mackie is still decompressing and scared and would probably do best with older kiddos who will give him the space to trust on his own timeline. Training | Mackie has done great with his crate training and house training. So far he has not had any accidents in the house! When his foster family is home, he goes outside every couple of hours and now is starting to go to the back door when he wants/needs to go out. He is crated when the foster family is not home and at night. He will sleep through the night without any crying and is starting to go into the crate on his own for naps during the day. Leash | Mackie had never been on a leash until coming to foster care. He practices every day with his foster mom and is getting so much better. He will be a champ at it soon and ready for walks, hikes, etc. Activity Level | Moderate!Health Notes | Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $575 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year old, $525 for 1 - 6 years old, $475 for dogs 7 - 10 years old, and $350 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $625. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, transportation to Colorado, and supplies while in foster care (that currently average over $750 per dog).Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet and greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. We will not respond to emails about animal availability or allow meet and greets without an approved adoption application on file. Please Note | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for one year from the date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!
