Squeak is a neonatal kitten who presented bright, alert, and responsive (BAR) but is showing clinical signs consistent with probable swimmer syndrome. This congenital condition affects limb positioning and mobility, causing difficulty standing, walking, and nursing normally. Neonatal kittens with swimmer syndrome require intensive supportive care, including frequent monitoring, specialized bedding, physical therapy exercises, assisted feeding if needed, and a clean, controlled environment to help improve mobility and prevent secondary complications. Due to Squeakâs age and the level of hands-on nursing care required for treatment and recovery, this exceeds what we can consistently provide in the shelter environment. Despite these challenges, Squeak remains bright and responsive and is doing his/her best while receiving supportive care.Squeak needs a safe, compassionate placement with a foster, rescue, or adopter experienced or willing to provide the dedicated neonatal and rehabilitative care necessary to give him/her the best chance at improvement and long-term quality of life. This pet is at risk for euthanasia due to the level of medical care and supportive nursing required, which exceeds what we can provide in the shelter.
