ROSE NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name: Rose Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd and retriever mix
Best Guess for Age: 4 years as of November 2025 SEX: Female
Approximate Weight: 46 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!
Currently Living at: DC area foster home
Special adoption considerations: Rose is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
Rose is Looking For: Her forever home! Rose landed in the shelter through no fault of her own and is eager to once again have her own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in parks, and all the adventures they can dream up. Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed are also on her wish list but you know what? She's out of the puppy yips and knows what's most important in life: Being safe and loved and under her own roof. In exchange, she promises adoring gazes and love and loyal companionship for all her days.
What do you say? Is Rose the one for your home and your heart?
What My Foster Says About Me: Rose just arrived, but she is already the sweetest thing! She has the cutest little face with those cute floppy ears. She has already tested out several toys and had a blast. She loves to roll in the grass and on the carpet for back scratches. And with some coaxing with a treat, she will sit for you (and take her treat gently)! She loves to be pet and will give you kisses if you let her. She also likes to sit on your feet and melt onto them so that she can roll over for belly rubs. She has done pretty well on the limited leash walking we have done (heartworm restriction until 1/7!), but I think she will be a champ at that when the time comes for longer strolls. She ate her dinner at a good pace (no woofing down) and went potty outside. The car doesn't seem to be her favorite, but she will let you put her in it. She is doing well so far, and I can't wait to update with more as I get to know her!
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
