LEONIDAS

WATCH MY VIDEO...Leonidas is a sweet and loving dog who recently came to us from another shelter, so we are still getting to know all about him. What we do know already is that he has a very gentle heart and a strong desire to connect with people. Leonidas can be sensitive to fast movements and loud noises, and he may flinch if hands move suddenly. Because of this, he will do best with a calm, patient family who understands that trust takes time and kindness. As he settles in, he continues to show progress and is adjusting better to the shelter environment each day. He walks well on leash and is friendly with the new people he meets. Leonidas knows how to sit and is very food motivated, which will make continued training enjoyable and rewarding. He especially loves special treats like whipped cream, peanut butter, and a little cream cheese. Leonidas enjoys leaning into his people for pets, hugs, and reassurance. He will nuzzle your hand when he wants more attention and affection. Off leash in the yard, he happily follows his handler around, staying close and checking in often. He does tend to jump up when greeting or when he misses you, which appears to be his way of showing affection and excitement. He has shown some curiosity around water. He once enjoyed licking water droplets from a window and, after being offered a bowl, eagerly drank the whole thing. He seemed a bit unsure of the bowl and the water hose at first, but with gentle encouragement he was able to relax. Leonidas is a loving, sensitive soul who is learning that he is safe. With patience, consistency, and lots of gentle affection, he has the potential to blossom into a deeply devoted companion. He is hoping for a quiet, understanding home where he can continue to build confidence and finally feel secure and loved.
