Kindle is a 6 month old Yorkie-type mix who weighs a whopping 5 pounds and has a heart that is much bigger than her tiny frame. She was rescued from a shelter and has been quietly blossoming in foster care, revealing herself to be an incredibly affectionate, gentle little dog who simply wants to be close to her person.
At her core, Kindle is a world-class cuddler. Once she feels safe, she wants nothing more than to be nestled as close to you as possible- often tucked right under your chin- showering you with kisses and soaking up affection. She is very bonded to her humans and thrives on closeness, comfort, and reassurance. While she can be timid at first, once she trusts you, her loving nature shines through in the sweetest way.
Kindle follows a gentle daily routine and does best with consistency. She usually wakes up between 6-8am and sometimes needs a little encouragement to eat breakfast, which she now does well with gentle reminders (especially when she sees her doggy foster sibling eating too). She is potty pad trained and reliably uses pads overnight in her x-pen. During the day, she stays in her pen while her foster is at work and settles calmly there from 9-5. When her foster works from home, Kindle prefers to remain nearby rather than exploring, often choosing to nap on the couch, rest in her pen, or relax in a cozy dog sling wrapped close to her human.
One of Kindle's biggest recent milestones was her very first real walk- and it was a huge success. After previously freezing up outdoors, she has gained confidence through gradual exposure and now walks politely on leash alongside her foster's dog. On her first walk, she happily explored, greeted passersby, and even met two potential adopters along the way. She showed curiosity, confidence, and a clear love for people, happily jumping up for snuggles and calmly greeting friendly dogs, including a Bernese Mountain Dog. Seeing her personality emerge outdoors was a joyful moment and a testament to how far she's come.
Kindle's personality has grown tremendously since arriving in foster care. In the beginning, she was very shy, shaky, and hesitant. With patience and consistency, she has become much more secure and affectionate. She is a velcro dog at heart, but one who sometimes needs reassurance that it's okay to come closer. She wants to be with her person as much as possible, yet has shown she can handle time alone in her pen without issue.
She lives with a small-medium sized dog, Lyla, who is playful and energetic. Watching Lyla helped Kindle come out of her shell- her first tail wags appeared during Lyla's zoomies, and now the two will occasionally get playful together. Kindle enjoys being near other dogs and would likely do well with another calm, small dog, especially one that can help model confidence.
Kindle is not a barker and is generally very quiet. She doesn't bark at visitors or noises and tends to respond to uncertainty by freezing or shaking rather than vocalizing. On rare occasions, she has barked while being carried in a dog pouch, but otherwise remains very quiet. She only chews on her toys and uses her teething chews appropriately, though she may gently nibble hands during cuddle time as a way of seeking attention.
Because of her small size and sensitive nature, Kindle would do best in a calm home with adults or older, gentle children who understand how to move slowly and respectfully around a tiny dog. She bonded beautifully with a patient 12-year-old child, showing that calm, kind energy brings out the best in her. She may occasionally show jealousy if competing for attention, so a home that can balance affection thoughtfully would be ideal.
What makes Kindle truly special is her transformation. She arrived as a shut-down little dog who clearly wanted love but didn't know how to ask for it. In just a short time, she has revealed herself to be affectionate, social, and deeply connected to her people. Watching her confidently walk through San Francisco, greeting strangers and trotting happily beside her foster dog, was a glimpse of the joyful companion she's becoming.
Kindle is a tiny lovebug who is ready to find a forever home where she can feel safe, cherished, and adored. Anyone lucky enough to meet her tends to fall in love almost immediately-and it's easy to see why.
