Meet Mini!
Mini is a 9 year old Maltese mix who weighs an astonishing 3 pounds- and somehow manages to pack an enormous personality into that tiny frame. She came to DPS from a shelter and was in desperate need of a dental. Her painful teeth made eating uncomfortable, but once that was taken care of, Mini truly blossomed. Now that she's feeling better, her sweet, charming nature shines through every single day.
Mini's routine is wonderfully low-key. She often accompanies her foster to work, where she spends most of the day happily lounging in her dog bed and keeping a quiet eye on everything going on around her. She's equally content staying home, relaxing on the couch or settling near her person while they go about their day. Mini is a grazer rather than a dog who thrives on strict mealtimes, so free feeding works best for her. At night, she's comfortable sleeping in a dog bed in the room or tucked cozily into her carrier.
Personality-wise, Mini is the perfect blend of independent lady and devoted sidekick. If it's a calm day, she's happy to put herself to bed in another room or curl up in her favorite spot in the living room. The moment you get up to do something, though, she's right there beside you, ready to see where the day might take her. She's a quiet observer, soft-spoken and gentle. Mini is very aware of her surroundings and carries herself like the discerning little queen she is.
She gets along beautifully with other animals. Mini lives peacefully with a 65-pound dog and feline housemates and has excellent manners with both. She understands boundaries, approaches calmly, and coexists without issue. In fact, she adores the big dog in her foster home and often seeks him out as a cuddle buddy when she's ready to relax and the humans are busy. She hasn't been around children in foster care and she's rather delicate, so older kids would be best.
Mini is very much a lounger and a snuggler. She is not a long-walk kind of dog- her tiny legs tire easily, and she prefers to stop frequently and take in the world at her own pace. Leash walks are polite and slow, with no pulling, barking, or chasing. A stroller or sling is always a welcome option if you want to bring her along for longer outings.
When it comes to housetraining, Mini does very well. She will always choose to potty outside when given the chance, but she is also comfortable using potty pads if needed. Accidents have only occurred when a pad wasn't available. She does not chew, dig, or bark, and she is impressively quiet overall-truly a peaceful little presence in the home.
What sets Mini apart is how effortlessly she steals hearts. She is deeply endearing, loves to curl up with her people, and has a subtle but unmistakable air of judgment-so mind your manners around her. One of her foster's favorite quirks is Mini's version of "play": she'll stare at you with a wagging tail, clearly asking to be picked up, then dash away the moment you reach for her. She'll repeat this game five or six times when she's feeling especially playful, clearly amused by herself.
Mini is a special little soul who has come a long way and is ready to be cherished. She may be tiny, but her presence fills a room, and the lucky person who adopts her will gain a devoted, affectionate companion with a whole lot of heart packed into three very precious pounds.
