Mud Pie is a sweet shelter kitten who needed a little extra help to live a comfortable, healthy life. He was born with eyelid agenesis in his right eye, a congenital condition where part of the eyelid never fully forms. Without a proper eyelid to protect the eye, nearby hairs and skin can rub directly on the cornea, causing constant irritation, pain, and even long-term damage. To keep him comfortable and protect his vision, Mud Pie underwent cryotherapyâ a procedure that freezes and removes the abnormal hair follicles causing the irritation. He also needed to have his other eye removed. But he's happy and thriving - he has a bright future! All made possible by generous donations!Insights from his foster home:`Mud Pie is an affectionate sweetheart. He is an outgoing and social Velcro cat, does not like being left alone. So, it would likely be best if he were to have another young playful energetic cat in the house with him and free reign of the home. He is very vocal when left alone in a room and while he's in the car, but is otherwise not a super vocal boy.Despite having an impairment, he does seem to have some vision. He can track toys, people, other kittens, and even likes to stare out the window (especially screened windows that are left open). His depth perception can be a little off at times. However, this doesn't prevent him from doing anything. He is locked in on whatever is going on around him and he loves to stare up at his human's face when cuddling. He doesn't yet depend on his sense of smell as much as you would expect and can sometimes need help finding his wet food. If he starts nibbling on your fingers, this is a good indicator that he's hungry, but doesn't know where to find it. He also likes to walk right on your feet - which can be an adorable tripping hazard. When he's not playing, his preferred hangout spots are in your lap, atop your shoulders, or under a blanket at your feet.``Mudpie is still extremely playful and curious. He wants to play with my dogs and cries when he hears us but we aren't in the room. 100%% potty trained and great with kids.`
