This dog originally came to our shelter with her puppies and has shown a gentle, resilient spirit throughout her time in our care. Unfortunately, she is currently facing a serious and progressive medical condition affecting multiple joints, especially her right front wrist, which has developed significant swelling and ongoing lameness. Despite extensive veterinary care, diagnostics, and treatment - including therapy for Valley Fever - her condition has continued to worsen. Further testing indicates she is suffering from immune-mediated erosive polyarthritis, a chronic and painful disease similar to rheumatoid arthritis. This condition is progressive, carries a guarded to poor prognosis, and will require long-term treatment with steroids and immunosuppressant medications. The likelihood she will ever be relieved of her pain is unlikely, and we can not give a shelter dog immunosuppressant medicaions in a highly stressful and illness-prone environment (especially with her history of upper respiratory infection and pneumonia). At this time, she continues to limp even with the pain control options available in the shelter, and her quality of life is a growing concern. Our veterinary team has recommended humane euthanasia due to the severity of her condition. If we are unable to find proper placement for her, we will be letting her go on Wednesday 2/11/26.However, we are making a final effort to find a rescue or experienced adopter who may be able to try the specialized medical care, safe environment, and long-term support she needs.?? She needs help urgently. If you are a rescue partner or adopter with the ability to take on a medically complex dog, please reach out immediately.Rescues:
