Meet Dottie!Dottie was born outside and came to us through our Community Cats program. Because of this, she's had very little human interaction and will need a slow transition into your home. Dottie is a beautiful long haired black kitten with hints of brown in her fur. She is still adjusting to life amongst humans and just needs some time and patience to fully embrace the house cat life. She is very playful and loves to swat at a dangle while lying on her back. One cute little quirk she has is sometimes she decides to nuzzle the dangle toy mid play instead of swatting at it. She is also very cat friendly and will make a great companion for your other feline housemate(s).To help her acclimate to her new home we have some reccomendations. WHAT TO EXPECT*Hiding: while she is acclimating to her new home, we highly reccomend confinement to a cage for a short period of time. This way she can learn about their new surroundings but still feel secure in the crate. This will also eliminate the worry of âlosing themâ in your home â kittens will find anywhere to hide! Don'd have a crate? no worries...We can lend you one until you no longer need it.*Transition: moving to a new environment can be scary, and potential backslide in behavior is to be expected. If they purred here at the shelter, they will purr again in your home but it may take some time. Be patient while they learn the new patterns, sounds, and smells of your home.*Hands-On Work at Home: When get your kitten home, it is important to work with them. Find wet food that your kitty loves and pet them while they are eating. If petting is too scary, feed them by hand first, so they quickly learn that hands are not a scary thing. Pairing yummy food with handling is the quickest way to teach an under-socialized kitten that petting is a good thing and it can really get that purr engine running!Additionally, if you have another cat at home who is cat-friendly, they can help insecure kittens feel more comfortable and less overwhelmed while your new tiny tiger adjusts to life in their new home. Dottie is currently up to date on all vaccines, spayed, microchipped, and has been seen by our veterinarian.
