MEET ANTONIOAre you looking for a handsome gentleman to enjoy the spring with? Antonio just might be your guy! This fluffy dude was was born outside and came to us through our Community Cats program. Because he was so fearful, he went to foster with a `tiny tiger tamer` who helped him learn how to trust and be brave. Antonio is now ready for the next phase of his journey -- continuing to blossom in his forever home. Since he is still a little nervous, he needs an experienced cat owner who is willing to work with an undersocialized kitten. No small children for this little cutie! He would love a cat friend or two and would be tolerant of a calm respectful dog. HIs foster mom is really proud of the progress made, but he will still need a proper transition to his forever home. To help him acclimate to his new home we have some reccomendations: WHAT TO EXPECT*Hiding: while he is acclimating to his new home, we highly recommend confinement to a cage for a short period of time. This way he can learn about his new surroundings but still feel secure in the crate. This will also eliminate the worry of âlosing` him in your home â kittens will find anywhere to hide! Don't have a crate? No worries...we can lend you one.*Transition: moving to a new environment can be scary, and potential backslide in behavior is to be expected. If they purred here at the shelter, they will purr again in your home but it may take some time. Be patient while they learn the new patterns, sounds, and smells of your home.*Hands-On Work at Home: When get your kitten home, it is important to work with them. Find wet food that your kitty loves and pet them while they are eating. If petting is too scary, feed them by hand first, so they quickly learn that hands are not a scary thing. Pairing yummy food with handling is the quickest way to teach an under-socialized kitten that petting is a good thing and it can really get that purr engine running!Antonio is currently up to date on all vaccines, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and has been seen by our veterinarian.
