Bambi is a ~1 year old F intact bully breed (~47 lb) with a bite history -- prior to intake, dog was on leash with a handler behind a car, a new person walked by and dog became startled, lunged and bit left calf of victim. In shelter, lunged and attempted to bite a staff member who was taking dog from a different handler and attempting to walk the dog to a new area of shelter. She seems to be afraid of newly approaching people. This dog has exhibited loud barking and jumping at kennel door out of frustration (exhibiting kennel stress) which seems to be triggered by neighboring dogs barking, but this dog is highly food motivated and affiliative once you have food; once the kennel door open, this dog is easily leashed. This dog was started on anxiety medications (trazodone) to improve quality of life in shelter and reduce kennel stress and frustration. Most recently on 12/30/25, staff able to leash, walk dog to medical, weigh patient and perform very invasive physical examination (including oral exam, ear cleaning and treatment and vaccination, palpate abdomen, head pets and pats) - no signs of high fear/anxiety/stress during this encounter other than 2 lip licks and slightly more still (not tense) body language, and during exam dog lost interest in food distraction. Patient was on trazodone at time of exam (4 mg/kg). On repeated veterinary exams since 12/30/25 Bambi has been easy to handle and check skin/ears with minmal signs of high fear, anxiety and stress.Shelter has not yet performed dog-to-dog evaluation to assess dog-on-dog tolerance/reactivity, though Bambi is very reactive when passing other dogs in kennel and fixates when neighboring dog in kennel is barking.Bambi came into the shelter with ear infections, skin infections and blood in stool that may be suggestive of food intolerance or other allergic/inflammatory disease. The dog is on treatment for these issues. Needs rescue. If adopted, cannot go to home with any regular exposure to children under 12 and adopter would need to sign behavior and medical waiver.
