Papermate walks calmly on leash and adores toys and treatsâsturdy toys are best!Papermate has high FAS, so loud noises or crowds can make him nervous. With gentle guidance and patience, he gains confidence quickly. He would thrive with an adopter who can provide calm structure, plenty of love, and fun adventures.Stop by to meet this playful, affectionate little guy!02/04/26What did we do on todayâs adventure:From the moment I picked Papermate up, he was pure joy. Full body wiggles, slippery seal energy, and nonstop enthusiasm made it clear he was thrilled to be out. His goofiness had me laughing throughout our adventure. He is equal parts walrus, hippo, and lovable goober. Papermate absolutely loves toys, especially squeaky balls. He is happy to entertain himself with toys, and he lights up the second someone engages with him. He shows his excitement by wanting to be close, leaning in, and giving kisses. He can jump up whenhe is excited, but once some of that energy is out, he listens well to cues like âsit.â On leash, Papermate was a standout. He walked with excellent loose leash manners, often right by my side, checking in with the sweetest smile. Honestly, his leash skills made me look like a pro walker! He does not have endless physical energy, more emotional excitement than stamina, and he enjoyed stopping for rest breaks to take in the scenery. We passed many dogs, including small fluffy ones and reactive ones, as well as bicycles, geese, and other distractions. Papermate remained calm and easygoing throughout andshowed no interest in engaging, even when other dogs tried to provoke him. He chose to ignore them and stayed happily by my side. On our way back to the shelter, Papermate enjoyed a pup cup with wide-eyedenthusiasm before settling into the backseat with a deep, content sigh. He rode back quietly, looking ready for a well deserved nap. What should potential adopters know about me:Papermate is a big cuddle bug at heart and truly wants to be a lap dog. He thrives on human connection, toys, and companionship. He would do best in a home that appreciates his playful, joyful spirit and allows him time to settle and relax. During our outing, a toddler approached him quickly, and while he was calm overall, he did show discomfort when another child rushed him while we were seated. A home withtoddlers would benefit from a proper meet and greet and guidance on respectful interactions. Papermate is an easygoing, lovable dog who is guaranteed to bring laughter and love to his future home.12/14/25What did we do on todayâs adventure:Today, without me even knowing it, I went on a wonderful downtown adventure! I was extra wiggly while getting my harness on because I was so excited to spend some special time outside the shelter with my new human friend. My first try at jumping into the car didnât quite work outâmy short little legs misjudged the height! Oops! Luckily, I used the steps and hopped right in, then happily played with all the fun toys inside until, before I knew it, we had arrived. There was supposed to be a Christmas in the Park event, but since it wasnât open yet, we enjoyed a lovely walk around the SJSU campus and nearby streets instead. I felt a bit nervous when a big group of people came out of a building, so I stayed close to my human for comfort. They spoke to me gently and guided me away, which made me feel safe. I absolutely loved exploring the campusâespecially the green grass! I got excited seeing other dogs around and even did a little play bow, hoping to make friends, though I wasnât allowed to play. I was a bit disappointed, but it made me feel proud and happy when so many people told me how cute and well behaved I was. Also I managed to jump into the car without using steps this time! We also stopped by a local park where I enjoyed sniffing all the new smells and walking on the grass. Crossing a bridge, I heard ducks by the stream and found that very interesting! By the time we headed back to the shelter, I was tired but veryhappy. I curled up and snoozed, dreaming of more adventures like thisâmaybe next time to a real park! What should potential adopters know about me:Papermate is an adorable, short and chubby pup with lovely leash mannersâhe walks calmly right by your side. He can be a bit sensitive to loud noises and may feel nervous in big crowds, but with some gentle training, he can grow more comfortable in new environments. Heâs incredibly friendly with both people and other dogs. Papermate loves his toys, though he has a habit of tearing them apart, so sturdy, chew-proof toys are recommended. Heâs the perfect mix of adventure buddy and cuddle companion, always happy toexplore with you or snuggle up on the couch.Three words to describe me:Friendly, adventurous, excited
