02/21/26 16:04 MHBear experienced some mild complications post neuter and is recovering with the help of our medical team. Staff has noted his reactivity to have significantly decreased since being moved to a low traffic room in the interest of his health. It is likely that Bear is also very sensitive to his environment and would benefit from a quiet, low-stimulation home where he doesn't have to remain on `alert`If you think you can help Bear, even by providing a comfortable home temporarily, please contact us at
[email protected], or come in to inquire. 03/29/26What I did today (3 sentences):Today was my second Trails & Tails adventure, and I was feeling much more relaxed now that I know what'shappening â I hopped right into the car and stuck my head out the window to take in all the new smells rushing by! On the trail, I enjoyed a leisurely, sniffy stroll at my own pace, walking calmly near my walker without pulling and politely ignoring the other dogs we passed. During our breaks, I enjoyed some gentle scratches and watched the world go by, appreciating the quiet, peaceful moments. What to know about this dog:⢠Excellent leash manners â walks calmly without pulling⢠Polite/nonreactive when passing other dogs; would still like to be the only dog in the home though⢠No prey drive â ignored animals and birds on the trail⢠Best suited for a calm, quiet home with patient adopters who allow him to come to them on his own termsThree words to describe me:Polite, Well Mannered, Calm1/16/26This dog is a sensitive, fearful pup who is highly motivated to get out of the kennel. At the front of the kennel, he may bark, growl, or show stiff, tucked-body signals, but this is a sign of his nervousness rather than aggression. He responds to treats but remains cautious, and with gentle, patient handling, he can feel safer and more comfortable. Heâs looking for an experienced adopter who can help him build confidence in a calm, reassuring environment.Bear is a 3 year old lab mix who has been in shelter since early september -- he does better with poeple he knows and is a bit fearful of new faces; he is exhibiting high kennel stress and would benefit from rescue before his behavior decompensates in shelter; able to leash and walk out of kennel; able to complete invasive physical exam in medical, but demonstrated a lot of lip licking and fear. He has done well on play yard and approached handler for chin scratches. Given stiff body language exhibited in shelter, may do better in a home without children under 13 years of age, out of abundance of caution.12/16/25What did we do on todayâs adventure:Today was my first Trails & Tails adventure and I could hardly contain my excitement! When it was time to get ready, I did my happy tippy taps because I just so ready to get outside. The car ride was so much fun - I got to stick my head out the window and catch all those wonderful smells rushing by. Once we arrived at our walking spot, I was in heaven. I'm all about leisurely, sniffy walks where I can really take my time investigating every interesting scent. Yes, I'm a strong boy, but I have good leash manners and walk nicely with my handler. Though I'll be honest - when I catch a really, really good smell, I can be a bit stubborn about wanting to investigate it thoroughly. Can you blame me?What should potential adopters know about me:Bear is a gentle, mild-mannered boy who truly embodies the joy of simple pleasures. He loves leisurely, sniffy walks where he can take his time exploring the world through scent. While Bear is a strong dog, he has good leash manners and walks well with his handler, though he can showa bit of stubborn streak when he encounters a particularly captivating smell that he really wants to investigate. He takes treats very nicely and already knows `sit` and`paw`. This good boy is non-reactive to bikes, cars, and people, and interested in but non-reactive to other dogs. Bear would be a great fit for someone looking for a steady, even-tempered companion who finds joy in the simple things - good smells, car rides, treats, and quality scratches.Three words to describe me:Gentle, Curious, Mild-mannered
