Molly is a young sweet (~1 year old, full adult dentition but no tartar) female mini poodle, spayed in shelter on 12/16/25. She came into the shelter with a knock-kneed stance, with difficulty bearing weight normally in her back legs. The medical team has taken x-rays of her stifles, and the x-rays are being submitting for radiologist review, but we suspect her RIGHT knee has grade 4/4 medial patellar luxation, with secondary limb deformities and joint deformity. We suspect her LEFT knee has ~grade 2/4 medial patellar luxation, meaning the patella luxates in and out of the kneecap with flexion/extension. This is a disorder that some small breed dogs, among others, are predisposed to, but Molly is severely affected. Both legs, but in particular the right leg, would benefit from surgical repair with a board-certified veterinary orthopedic surgeon to stabilize the kneecap. Without surgical intervention, Molly will always have a severely abnormal gait in the hind end, and will need long-term medical management for pain control. The web note will be updated with any and all updates from x-ray report. Molly needs rescue who is able to seek surgical repair of kneecaps OR a committed adopter who can seek orthopedic consult with a local surgeon.
