Rescue Plea â Senior Dog with Heart MurmurThis senior dog is in need of rescue placement due to several medical conditions that will require ongoing monitoring and care.On examination, she was noted to have a grade 4â5/6 heart murmur, most consistent with suspected myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD), though other cardiac disease cannot be ruled out without advanced diagnostics such as an echocardiogram. Chest radiographs did not show obvious heart enlargement or pulmonary changes, but early heart disease remains possible and she may require monitoring and cardiac medications in the future.Radiographs also showed mild enlargement of the liver (hepatomegaly), the cause of which is unknown. This may represent a primary liver condition or a reactive change and may benefit from additional evaluation with a private veterinarian. While she has a more pot-belly appearance that can be concerning for a disease called Cushing's, her liver values are normal and her urine is well concentrated. The medical team has also performed an LDDST (confirmatory test for Cushing's) and this is negative. She also had severe dental disease and has already undergone a dental procedure with multiple tooth extractions to address infected teeth. This dog is bright, alert, and responsive, but due to her medical needs and the likelihood of ongoing monitoring and potential treatment, she would benefit from placement with a rescue partner that can provide continued medical oversight and support.Rescue placement will help ensure she receives the follow-up care and monitoring needed to maintain a good quality of life.
