She has been noted to be shy and stressed, with behaviors including hissing and avoidance of staff. These behaviors are consistent with fear and stress in the shelter setting, and she may warm up with time in a quiet, stable home environment.She has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and will require ongoing medical management and follow-up with a private veterinarian. At this time, she is not reliably taking oral methimazole, which makes treatment in the shelter setting challenging. Alternative treatment options may be more appropriate outside of the shelter, including definitive treatment with radioactive iodine (I-131) therapy, or as recommended by a private veterinarian.This senior cat would benefit from placement with a rescue or experienced adopter who can provide a low-stress environment, patience, and appropriate medical follow-up. Continued care in a home setting may significantly improve her comfort and overall well-being.The shelter is able to provide 30 days worth of medications for her.
