Well, hello! My name is Zelda and I'm a spayed, 2 years old, German Shepherd/Rottweiler mix who currently weighs around 62 lbs. I'm an energetic and effervescent girl that LOVES to play in the water! I would be the perfect companion to beach goers, river rafters or sprinkler hoppers! I'm a girl who feels the call of the wild! I'm a rambunctious girl that prefers to be outdoors exploring. I'm hoping to continue working on my social skills and impulse control with an active, loving family. I can't wait to meet everyone in the household including any resident dogs before I head home. I recently went on a fieldtrip with a PHS volunteer! Here's how I did:
Zelda has no fear of getting in the car and hopped right in. We went to Coyote Point and walked around. She was so good on our walk that I did some long lining with her. She really doesn't pull much. She was very engaged with her environment and smelling all the things. It was busy at the park with other dogs, people, and kids. She was curious but not reactive. She did a great job staying with me. We walked out to the beach--she did not care about the water and didn't seem curious about it, so we headed back into the park. She loves to sniff everything and spent most of our walk with her nose in the grass. After that we headed to my house. She actually got more fired up once we got to my house- she was VERY excited and running around the yard. I brought her inside and tried to get her to settle down but all the new smells and the new space were very exciting to her. We ended up going out on the deck where she played with a basketball for a while, but this also ramped up her excitement. I think it would take her a few days to settle down in a new home; she is easily excitable. But she's a very good girl. I tried to get her to settle on the couch with me, but she was too intrigued by all the new stuff. We headed back to the shelter, and once we got into her dorm, she immediately calmed down and laid down in my lap.
